Jessica's Grandparents: "Our Secret to a Happy Marriage"

Posted on 10:30 by gaurav kumar
According to my grandmother: "Have your own life. Pursue your dreams and let your husband do the same. Being content with yourself makes you a better wife."

According to my grandfather: "Any disagreement can be settled with two words: 'Yes, dear.' "

Grace Bonney: "Our Secrets to a Happy Marriage"

Posted on 07:00 by gaurav kumar
Grace + AC's secrets to a happy marriage:

1. Talk it out: No matter how angry you are, talking always helps. I wasn't a big talker before meeting Aaron (I was a big "slam the door"-er) and he taught me the value of talking through any and all difficult situations.

2. Support each other's dreams: AC loves to play poker and guitar, and he also likes mixed martial arts. If he wanted to leave his job to pursue any of those, I would support him 100%. And I know he'd do the same for me. I realized a few years back that no matter how good the salary or benefits, if your partner isn't happy, even the best job is the wrong job. If you're both truly happy, then material things really do become less important.

3. Go on adventures: Whether it's a scooter ride to Coney Island or a backpacking trip out west, remember to experience new things together. AC and I are complete opposites, but we both love to try new things, which keeps us growing together.

And above is a sneak peek from our wedding :)

Have a blissfully happy weekend!

Posted on 14:00 by gaurav kumar
My dear readers, I'm pinching myself as I write this: Alex and I are finally getting married tomorrow! My relatives arrived from England last night (with hats in their suitcases!) and we had a giggly pizza party. Tonight is the rehearsal and tomorrow is The Big Day itself. I can't wait to kiss Alex for the first time as my husband. My arms feel buzzy with excitement, and as Stephanie said, I just want to hug the world.

Thank you again for making our wedding planning so much fun. It has been exciting to share each funny and exciting step with you and hear your thoughts and stories. I can't wait to show you the photos. Have a wonderful weekend, and here are a few great posts around the web this week....

Peanut butter and jelly truffles.

A groom gave his bride this funny card on their wedding day. She must have laughed out loud.

Pretty things from Provence.

Dreamy constellation globe.

Objects in My House is like a slot machine for design bloggers. (Via Swiss-miss)

A fabulous proposal -- with Polaroids!

Wine with embroidered labels.

What a welcoming foyer.

Shoe flowers and tree art.

This 28-year-old guy lives with his 73-year-old dad. He writes down stuff his dad says. GENIUS.

A wedding invitation that tells a love story.

Rainboots for muddy walks in the woods.

Tattoos that look like paint.

Pretty heart tights.

I heart these necklaces. Also, these.

Anna Wintour on David Letterman. She jokes, but she's still scary.

An incredible installation. (Via Morale Agency)

Have a fabulous weekend!!! Go kiss someone you love!!! xoxo

Honeymoon + registry

Posted on 06:00 by gaurav kumar
Many of you have been asking about our honeymoon, and I realized that we never shared our final plan! After our wedding this weekend, we'll be flying to Italy and Greece for two weeks. We can't wait. We're flying into Naples, then going to Positano for four nights, then Rome for three nights, then Santorini for four. It will be such an exciting, romantic, over-the-top trip! (Any last-minute recommendations? I would LOVE to hear. xo)

To help afford our honeymoon, we skipped the regular household registry and created a honeymoon registry. We signed up with buy-our-honeymoon (don't worry, guests never see the tacky name!). The honeymoon registry has worked out really well and made our honeymoon possible; I'd highly recommend it to anyone. xo

Sixty years of roses

Posted on 09:43 by gaurav kumar
This schmoopy news story made me smile: Tom Shovelton has put a fresh rose at his wife's bedside every single day for the 60 years they've been married. Every morning, he kisses her when she wakes up, and every night he kisses her goodnight. "I love her to bits," he says. "I have done since the day we met." How sweet is that?

Headbands

Posted on 07:15 by gaurav kumar
Oooh, there's a new headband shop in town! Shea and her mom just launched Old Soul, New Heart, a gorgeous handcrafted collection of vintage and feminine finds. "My mother always told me that the best thing a woman can do for herself is put on sparkles, ruffles or bows because they’ll put you on the fast track to feeling pretty," says Shea. "Thankfully, I listened."

Aren't these beautiful? My two favorites are below. And on a sidenote: How perfect is her red lipstick?! (She told me that it's NARS Jungle Red.)
P.S. The first headband shop we loved, Bando.

Natural sunscreen

Posted on 12:10 by gaurav kumar
The other day, I was hanging out with my friend Jessa Blades, a natural beauty consultant and make-up artist. She always uses natural, organic products, and she explained that regular products often contain dangerous chemicals and harmful toxins. I was shocked. You can even check out your own makeup on Skin Deep. (Scary!)

So, for our honeymoon, Alex and I have decided to take natural sunscreen. I'm excited about it, especially since you slather sunscreen all over your body every day, and I want to stay safe and healthy (and incredibly pale).

Thank you so much, Jessa!

Have a relaxing weekend.

Posted on 14:00 by gaurav kumar
My sweet readers, what are you doing this weekend? Tonight, Alex and I are going to our last dance class before our wedding. We haven't practiced very much (our living room is teeny and we keep bumping into the sofa), but it's exciting to (kind of) know how to do the foxtrot. Have a wonderful weekend, and meanwhile, here are a few great posts from around the web this week...

Meryl Streep, then and now.

Yellow flower necklace.

Chocolate-scented postage stamps.

What a playful house.

The 50 most stylish men of the last 50 years.

Two friends spend a dorky (read: adorable) day in New York.

Sweatpants are cool. No, seriously.

A sexy wedding photo (and her dress is from J. Crew, woo hoo!)

Student life at the Vaganova ballet Academy.

Wishing I could squeeze my giant feet into these riding boots.

A new print from Mike and Emma. (Remember their wedding?)

An umbrella skirt!

Oooh, what a gorgeous veil with a big bow.

Roald Dahl's writing room.

Hmm, maybe wearing stripes in France is like wearing the concert T-shirt to the concert.

Such cute bridesmaids cards!

Porter looks great in her new glasses.

Awkward family photos are still making me laugh.

Plus, two videos:

I had mixed feelings about 500 Days of Summer, but this music video is super cute. (Joseph Gordon-Levitt grew up nicely.)

A Budweiser commercial filmed from an elevated train in Chicago and set to a Beatles song.

Have a wonderful weekend! xo

Feeling Smitten...

Posted on 08:15 by gaurav kumar
My dears, here's a weekly round-up of Smitten, my Glamour Magazine relationships blog...

Do or don't: Dogs in weddings.

On a scale of 1 to 10, how chatty is your boyfriend?

My favorite summer book.

Who should be the next Bachelor: Jake, Reid or Kiptyn?

Reader's dilemma: "I'm going on my very first date this weekend. Help!"

Who's your "celebrity pass"?

Have you ever gotten flowers from a guy?

TOMS is making wedding shoes! Thoughts?

What's your sexiest body part?

A reader's story: "Engagement Chicken really worked."

As always, find much more on Smitten. Thank you! xo

What's your nickname?

Posted on 09:00 by gaurav kumar
A few months ago, at a dinner party, Alex and I were in a joking debate about one thing or another, and I insisted on my point: "But dolly, dolly!" Suddenly, I realized everyone was quiet. Was it weird that I was calling this bearded, deep-voiced man "dolly"?

Alex's nicknames for me pretty much change with the season. I was "baby" for a long time, then "foxy," then "munchkin," then "dubbas" (no idea), then "dollface," and right now, because of our approaching honeymoon, he's taken to calling me "doll-fahtzio," which he insists means "dollface" in Italian.

What about you guys? What are your nicknames?

Pixie bride

Posted on 06:22 by gaurav kumar
Our wedding festivities start in ten days (!), so I've been daydreaming about weddings all day every day. This Australian wedding is especially adorable. The bride, Cassie, looks like a little pixie in her short dress by Carla Zampatti. And their fairy-light chandelier was from Ikea!

Shark cardigan

Posted on 08:25 by gaurav kumar
My friend Brooke is terrified of sharks. (She could barely swim in pools when she was little.) So she probably wouldn't wear this shark cardigan, but I think it's pretty rad, don't you?

P.S. On the flip, a fun little tutu skirt.

Have a sunny weekend.

Posted on 13:23 by gaurav kumar
My lovelies, what are you up to this weekend? Alex and I will be taking care of last-minute wedding details (only two weeks away, eeks!) and going on an adventure to this trippy Korean water spa, which Alex has been dying to try out for ages. It looks weird but fun. Hope you have a great break, and meanwhile, here are a few great posts from around the web...

A sneaky squirrel!

Carry totes like a French woman.

Liberty sunglasses and an adorable Liberty girl.

Sit up straight. (Or not.)

Anti-theft bike stickers.

Six happy couples.

You can be girly and a feminist.

3-D polaroids.

Sparkly cookie table. (Thanks, Jessie)

Our girl Chelsea is spending a month in Sweden, and her photos are awesome.

Maggie Gyllenhaal.

First, a sheet at Goodwill; then, an adorable top.

Oh. My. Swooning over this Super 8 wedding video.

The world's most amazing hotel pools (including one with sailboats).

Abbey's house is pretty.

Doesn't this yellow wedding look fun?

Michael gets ready to hit a pinata...

A nautical hook. (Thanks, Abbey)

Loving these belly photos.

Plus, one video:

A Roman holiday, just for fun.

Have a wonderful weekend, my darlings!
